Kota saree is made at kota, Rajasthan. Sarees are made of pure cotton and silk and have square like patterns known as khats on them. The chequered weave of a Kota sari is very popular. They are very fine weaves and weigh very less.
Kota sarees are called Masuria because they were once woven in Mysore. The weavers   migrated to Kaithoon, near Kota, and the sarees came to be known as 'Kota-Masuria'.
Kota Silk Saree
Kota saree is woven on a traditional pit loom in such a fashion that it produces square checks pattern on the fabric. The delicately wrought checks are locally known as khats. They smear onion juice and rice paste with a lot of care into the yarn making the yarn so strong that no additional finishing is needed.

Cotton for the Kota Saree comes from Madhya Pradesh while the silk, which once came from Karnataka, is now procured from other places as well.The procedure of making this fabric involves winding, warping, dyeing, sizing, drafting, denting, piercing and finally design setting. This is the most open weave fabric woven in India. Kota doria cotton fabrics have the fine texture, durability and light in weight.

Weavers take up three Sarees of the same design at a time.  The setting-up of the threads will take a day because it is complicated and time-consuming. Making of design of the saree is also very complicate so it will take close to a week to complete three saris in the basic pattern. Weaving was done mostly by women.

Gadwal is located in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana, India. Gadwal is known for its handloom jari sarees. The local weavers can weave the 5.5 meters of saree fabric in such a way that it can be folded down to the size of small matchbox. Gadwall sarees have been worn since the 1930s. There are cotton sarees with an attached silk border and silk pallu.
